Sun exposure, the normal aging process, and gravity can take a toll on your appearance. But not everyone is eligible for skin-lifting surgery. If you’ve been told that you’re not a good candidate for surgery to correct the sagging in your face, neck, eyebrow, under-chin and decolletage areas, Ultherapy may be the ideal treatment for you.
For those of you who are comfortable with surgical options, we’re proud to introduce J-Plasma, an innovative tool that uses Helium energized with radiofrequency energy to resurface and tighten skin. The J-Plasma can be used almost anywhere on the body to very effectively treat loose or sagging skin with no visible scarring.
The technology can treat sagging skin just about anywhere on the body including the arms, legs, above the knees, tummy, and breasts. In fact, J-Plasma provides such effective tightening that it can be used for patients after major weight loss with most patients seeing a 50% improvement in the amount of sagging skin including areas with stretch marks.
J-Plasma, Skin Tightening
Loose, sagging skin is one of the most common concerns I hear from patients — and one of the most frustrating, because it’s one of those things that no amount of diet, exercise, or skincare can fix on its own. Once skin has been significantly stretched, or has lost its structural collagen with age or hormonal changes, it doesn’t simply bounce back. But that doesn’t mean surgery is the only answer.
At Dr. Dana MD, we offer one of the most comprehensive menus of skin tightening options in Florida — from truly non-invasive treatments with zero downtime, to minimally invasive procedures that deliver results approaching surgery, without the scar or the extended recovery. I believe strongly in matching the right treatment to the right patient, and that means having enough tools in the toolkit to actually do that well.
This page is also for the growing number of patients who have achieved significant weight loss on GLP-1 medications like Ozempic or Wegovy and are now dealing with skin that didn’t follow. You’ve done something remarkable — and the loose skin you’re left with doesn’t have to be permanent. Depending on how much laxity you have, there may be an excellent non-surgical or minimally invasive option that gets you most of the way there without a surgical procedure. I’ll be honest with you about which category you fall into.
The skin tightening treatments I offer fall into a spectrum from non-invasive to minimally invasive, and include:
- XERF Structural Skin Tightening — multifrequency monopolar RF, no downtime
- Potenza RF Microneedling — radiofrequency delivered via microneedles
- Ultherapy Prime — focused ultrasound, FDA-cleared skin lifting
- Renuvion / J-Plasma — minimally invasive subdermal helium plasma tightening
Skin Tightening and GLP-1 Weight Loss: What Are Your Options?
Patients who have lost 30, 50, 80 or more pounds on Ozempic, Wegovy, or other GLP-1 medications are arriving with a very specific challenge: the weight is gone, but the skin hasn’t caught up — and in many cases it won’t, especially after significant or rapid weight loss.
The good news is that we now have a remarkable range of options between “do nothing” and “have a full tummy tuck or body lift.” Where you land on that spectrum depends on how much excess skin you have, how much laxity versus actual loose hanging skin, your anatomy, and your tolerance for any degree of procedure. Here’s the honest summary:
For mild to moderate skin laxity — skin that is crepey, less firm, or slightly loose but not hanging — XERF, Potenza RF Microneedling, and Ultherapy Prime are excellent starting points. They require no anesthesia, no incisions, and no downtime beyond a day or two at most.
For moderate laxity where the skin is noticeably loose but not truly hanging — particularly on the abdomen, arms, or thighs — Renuvion/J-Plasma can produce genuinely dramatic tightening through tiny incisions. This is where the “minimally invasive tummy tuck” concept I’ll describe below becomes relevant.
For significant excess skin — skin that hangs, folds, or causes physical symptoms — surgical skin removal is likely the most effective answer, and I’ll tell you that clearly at your consultation rather than sell you a series of treatments that won’t solve the problem.
XERF Structural Skin Tightening
Best for: Face, neck, body laxity · No downtime · No needles · No anesthesia
XERF by Cynosure Lutronic is the newest addition to our skin tightening menu, and I’m genuinely excited about what it offers patients. It’s the world’s first multifrequency monopolar radiofrequency system — FDA-cleared in 2025 — and it works differently from anything we’ve had before.
Most RF devices operate at a single frequency. XERF uses two simultaneously: 6.78 MHz targeting the upper dermis to remodel collagen and elastin, and 2 MHz penetrating to the deep SMAS layer — the same structural layer addressed in surgical facelifts. Reaching both depths in one treatment produces meaningful tightening that single-frequency devices simply can’t match.
What makes it stand out as a patient experience is the complete absence of discomfort or preparation. There’s no numbing cream, no needles, no anesthesia. Most patients describe a gentle warmth throughout the session. You can wear makeup the same day. Some tightening is noticeable right away; full results build over 4–12 weeks as collagen remodels.
XERF is particularly well suited for:
- Face and jawline laxity, early jowling
- Neck and crepey décolletage skin
- Arms, abdomen, and thighs with mild to moderate laxity
- Patients who want a truly zero-downtime option
- Maintaining results between other treatments
Potenza RF Microneedling
Best for: Skin laxity, texture, pores, scarring · Minimal downtime · Face and body
Potenza is our RF microneedling device — and RF microneedling is one of those treatments that consistently over-delivers for patients who are expecting something subtle. The combination of microneedle penetration and radiofrequency energy delivered at precise depths triggers a powerful collagen remodeling response that surface-only treatments can’t replicate.
The microneedles create controlled micro-injuries in the skin while simultaneously delivering RF heat energy to the deeper dermis. The result is tighter, smoother skin with improved texture, reduced pore size, and meaningful improvement in laxity — particularly on the face, neck, and body areas with crepey or loose skin.
What I like about Potenza specifically is the versatility of tip options, which allows me to customize depth and energy delivery to the specific area and concern being treated. It is effective for mild to moderate skin laxity and is an excellent complement to XERF, injectables, or laser resurfacing.
- Most patients require a series of 3 sessions for optimal results
- Mild redness and swelling for 24–48 hours post-treatment
- Safe for most skin types
- Can be combined with PRP for enhanced results
Ultherapy Prime Skin Tightening
Best for: Face, neck, brow, décolletage lifting · No downtime · FDA-cleared
Ultherapy Prime is the gold standard for non-invasive skin lifting on the face and neck — and the only non-invasive skin lifting treatment with FDA clearance. It uses focused ultrasound energy to precisely target the deep structural layers of the skin, including the SMAS — the same foundational layer a surgeon would address in a facelift — without any incisions at all.
The technology visualizes the tissue layers in real time, ensuring energy is delivered exactly where collagen is produced. The result is gradual, natural-looking lift and tightening as new collagen builds over 2–3 months following treatment. It’s not instant — but for patients who want a meaningful non-surgical improvement without downtime, it consistently delivers.
Ultherapy Prime is an excellent option if:
- You are not ready for surgery, or not a candidate for surgery
- You want to address early sagging in the face, jawline, neck, brow, or under-chin area
- You want to lift and firm the décolletage
- You want to extend the results of a surgical facelift or maintain your results long-term
A single Ultherapy Prime session takes 30–90 minutes depending on the areas treated. There is no downtime, though some patients experience mild tenderness or temporary flushing. Results appear gradually and typically last 1–2 years with maintenance.
Renuvion / J-Plasma: Minimally Invasive Skin Tightening
Best for: Moderate to significant laxity on body · Minimally invasive · Dramatic results
Of all the skin tightening tools available at our practice, Renuvion — also known as J-Plasma — is the one that most consistently surprises patients with how significant the results can be. This is a minimally invasive procedure, not a non-surgical one, but the recovery is measured in days to weeks rather than weeks to months — and the results can be truly dramatic.
Renuvion works by delivering helium plasma energy, energized by radiofrequency, either on the surface of the skin or through tiny incisions below the skin’s surface. When delivered subdermally — underneath the skin — it causes immediate and powerful tissue contraction, tightening the skin from within. Most patients see a 50% or greater improvement in skin laxity in treated areas, including areas with stretch marks.
Which Skin Tightening Treatment Is Right for You?
This is the question I get most often, and the honest answer is: it depends on your anatomy, your goals, and how much you’re willing to do. Here’s a simplified way to think about it:
Truly non-invasive (no needles, no downtime): XERF or Ultherapy Prime. Excellent for mild to moderate laxity, face and neck, and patients who want zero recovery time. These are also ideal maintenance treatments.
Minimally invasive with some downtime: Potenza RF Microneedling. Mild redness for 1–2 days, meaningful improvement in skin quality and mild laxity, great for face, neck, and body.
Minimally invasive with real recovery: Renuvion / J-Plasma. For moderate to significant laxity on the body, when you want results that approach surgery without a surgical scar or extended recovery. This is the most powerful non-surgical option we have for body skin tightening.
Surgical: If you have truly significant excess skin — skin that hangs, folds under itself, or causes physical symptoms — I’ll tell you that directly. Renuvion can supplement a surgical procedure and enhance results, but it is not a substitute for a tummy tuck, thigh lift, or arm lift when those are genuinely what’s needed.
The best way to know which approach is right for you is to come in for a consultation.
