Can I Breast Feed After Breast Augmentation?

  • Many women are able to breast feed successfully after breast augmentation surgery.  However, nerves, milk ducts, and milk glands can potentially be damaged during implant surgery.
  • Injured nerves can decrease the feeling in your nipple area. This may reduce your let-down response (when your breasts fill with milk).
  • Damaged milk ducts and glands can decrease the amount of milk made by your breast. Complications like infection and bleeding can increase this risk.
  • Using small implants, placing the implant under the muscle, and keeping the incision away from the nipple help to minimize the effect on breast feeding.
