Get Ready, Get Set…

A few weeks ago, a friend and fellow Junior League member called me and said that she wanted to nominate me for the Palm Beach Woman of the Year. I have to say, I was flattered to hear that I could be considered for somebody “of the Year”, but I was also wondering what the heck she was talking about.

She went on to explain that it’s a ten week-long fundraiser, where candidates compete to see who can raise the most money for cancer research. She said the minimum amount I would have to raise if I committed was $10,000. TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS! My first thought was that I wasn’t sure if I knew enough people in my new home state of Florida to raise a hundred dollars, let alone ten thousand.

But I made the commitment, even though by the first meeting, I hadn’t really resolved any of my fears. At the meeting, they asked us to reflect on our reasons for committing to this challenge. I’ve been thinking more and more about those reasons since I left that meeting, and the fear has been replaced by a drive to really accomplish something.

They say a picture’s worth a thousand words, and this blog just isn’t that long. So please check out the video I made to explain why I’m committing to this challenge, and join me in the fight against cancer.
