Operating suite at Dana Goldberg MD Plastic Surgery

Our facility was built specifically around infection protocol. When we designed our operating suite, we knew we wanted go beyond traditional standards and create a “clean room” environment. As a result of seing what we were able to accomplish, we decided to implement these same infection control based engineering measures into each of our facilities.

We began by increasing the number of required air changes per hour with oversized HVAC systems, which allows the entire volume of air in a room to be exchanged with fresh air every 2.5 minutes. We've also implemented negative air pressure in all patient areas, which keeps particulate mater from contaminating treatment rooms.

We use MERV 13 air filters in each of our air handlers. In order to achieve MERV-13, a filter has to catch 90% of particles in the 3-10 µm range, 90% of particles in the 1-3 µm range (where PM2. 5 is), and 50% of particles in the range 0.3-1 µm range (the really, really small stuff).

We have also nstalled UV Light sterilization in our HVAC coils in order to keep any bacteria, viruses, or other biological matter to form on the coils. In addition we use needle-point bi-polar ionization in air handler, to create equal amounts of positive and negative ions which are injected into the air stream, which breaks down passing pollutants and gases into harmless compounds like oxygen, carbon dioxide, nitrogen and water vapor.

Next, we installed Reflective Electro Magnetic Energy sanitizers in our main air ducts to produce Hydro-Peroxide plasma that is distributed through the air handler wich then disinfects the air passing out of each of the air vents.

We also use HyperHEPA filtration systems certified by an independent third-party lab to effectively filter 99.5% of harmful ultrafine pollution particles down to 0.003 microns in size. This is 100 times smaller than what is achieved with ordinary air filtration technology and 10 times smaller than a virus.

We're actually able to verify this by using a particle counter with advanced laser technology capable of highly accurate readings of tiny fine particles (PM2.5) – all the way down to 0.3 microns.

We use electrostatic disinfectant cleaning systems for 360-degree sterilization of rooms and equipment. This allows disinfectants to coat the entire surface of objects that are being disinfected while reducing unecessary waste of disinfectants. This technology also allows us to sterilize porus surfaces which includes any fabrics found in our facility.

In our operating suite we use laminar air flow to keep particulate matter out of the surgical field, and we've also eliminated all non-essential horizontal surfaces in order to prevent any foreign matter from collecting. We have also installed overhead Ultra Violet sterilization lighting which is used to ensure the facility is always completely disinfected even in areas that are not easily visible.

Air Quality Readings

Upon entry into any of our facilities, an artificial intelligence thermal virus detection system is used to identify abnormal body temperatures and other signs of potential illness. Once a normal temperature reading is taken, patients are asked to wash their hands, rinse with an oral antiseptic, and are given nasal swabs that prevent the spread of viruses for up to 9 hours.
