Platelet-rich plasma, or PRP for short, has been used for years in sports medicine. In that setting, this type of therapy uses platelets from an athlete’s own blood to assist in wound healing and the development of new soft tissue. PRP can also help with the development and growth of new blood vessels and even bone, so it’s often used to help speed the healing process.
But PRP has been found to be effective in relieving pain as well as accelerating the healing of damaged tendons and cartilage. And PRP is now being investigated as a method of regrowing hair -- so this is a medical technology with lots of promise in many different areas!
The office of Dana M. Goldberg MD offers PRP as one of our nonsurgical procedures. Give us a call to find out how PRP might be able to help you.
